Melanie Martinez's creative drive and talents as a visual artist have long distinguished her from other musicians. With her debut album Cry Baby, Melanie introduced the world to her distinctly original vision with hits like “Pity Party”, “Pacify Her”, “Alphabet Boy”, “Carousel” and “Sippy Cup”. Creating unique music videos for each album track, including “Soap/Training Wheels” and “Tag, You're It/Milk and Cookies”, Melanie portrays the traumas and insecurities of the album's titular character over a bed of electro pop, alternative and hip-hop. Her latest triumph K-12, an inspired new album and feature film directed by and starring Melanie, brings together a melting pot of low-key hip-hop, soulful pop and indie-leaning electro with whimsical, surreal visuals and magical realism to stunning results.

When I was around 8 years old I didn’t know much about sexual harassment, I was in a shop and I felt someone touch my below, I looked to see who it was and it was an old man laughing. I didn’t tell my family cuz I was too embarrassed. I was at school today, I’m now 14 and I felt someone pinch me (down there) on a way to a lesson and turned to see who it was, I saw a bunch of girls trying to hold their smiles in. Sexual harassment is NOT funny, it’s embarrassing and upsets so much people. It happened over 2 hours ago today and I’m still crying over it, objectifying people is cruel and heartless Guys it’s been like a year and I’m ok now but I’m annoyed that the teachers didn’t do anything, plus one of my classmates shared her story that happened in school where a student touched her w/o her permission and she told me that the teachers didn’t do anything. What’s the point of being a safe guarding teacher if you’re not going to do your job properly?😭😭

Melanie is such a powerful person. She wrote a whole movie also addressing issues most teens struggle with in high school. Like bulimia, transphobia, and the way girls dress, and how you’re supposed to think the way you look really matters. Transphobia by the way the principal treated the teacher and fired them simply because they are trans, Melanie addresses this by writing a song about how cruel people are who do this, and in this case, the principal. This song about the ways girls dress and how boys don’t know how to act. And Orange Juice about eating disorders.

This song touches such a serious topic about double standards, feeling as though women hv to look like models, and women being touched without permission. It isn't fair how we are told to look pretty and when we try to do that to meet others standards we get in trouble for something we do for others! That's having double morals. And men hv to learn that they can't touch people who aren't up for the grabbing! And finally, it isn't fair how us women hv to cover up the body we should be proud of just bc ppl can't control themselves, some women enjoy flaunting their body bc they are proud of it and are forced to cover up for fear of being touched. This has to change! Ooof that took forever to type, but was worth it and yes i liked my own comment bc no one else will :>

I actually just did a 4 page essay for my sociology class about this song’s lyrics. Melanie was definitely trying to convey a theme about gender expectations and the inequality associated with them. A deeper message about hegemonic masculinity/femininity is also conveyed throughout the song’s bridges and chorus. I’m amazed at how much thought was put into this song.

This was a much-needed song, especially for young girls. No external factors can be used as an excuse for sexual harassment or non-consensual acts. In places such as the country I am in now when girls get sexually assaulted, men use the reasoning of clothes or how the girls were acting. It's disgusting.

I’m only 12 and my sister is getting me a self defense tool.. nothing ever happened to me but she wants to make sure nothing will happen to me. She is the only one ,other then my brother and dad , that I feel accept me for who I am and protect me. Two examples, I came out to my mom saying I was non-binary and she said, “ I don’t understand what that is so I’m not going to call you by that. I will call you Kai ( my new name ) but that’s it. And that’s only because I already call you that.“ and when I came out as non-binary to my cousin he said, “I don’t believe in stuff like that, meaning I believe that you are born what you are. You can’t change that. I see you as a little *sister* to me and I will support you but I can’t call you by they/them. “ my sister on the other hand was proud for me and immediately started calling me they/them and Kai. She is even getting me a non-binary flag with a pan heart in the middle. My brother messes up sometimes but it’s alright. I still need to tell my dad about the new name but other than that he says he will try and call me they/them but not in front of people *at his nursing home* , because they are crazy there. Sorry this is so long I just wanted to show you aren’t alone and it drifted into something wayyy different lol. Sorry if I waisted your time.❤️

I realized Strawberry Shortcake is about *_double standards_* . "You'll never get a man's attention by being so unattractive!" "If you didn't wear such a tiny skirt, he never would grabbed you like that! Men can't control themselves!" EDIT: Yes, I know this happens to men. These are common comments towards women. The point still stands. It'd be assumed you won't get laid for being ugly, and if you're (sexually )touched without consent, it's somehow your fault.

Bruh my school needs to hear this. They banned rip jeans, us girls are the only one who have certain length pants, we can't show our shoulders, crop tops are a no, and we get suspended for being distracting like wtf. Edit: boys don't get dresscoded for wearing shirts without sleeves and they come to school shirtless but all they get is a warning and told to zip their jackets up. They also are allowed to wear those small basketball shorts Second edit: Beware the comments there's a troll named a "Princess looking for a Prince" purposely trying to upset people and saying ignorant things

So I said it’s not my fault if someone looks at me a certain way, that they should’ve been raised a different way if they think that that’s okay

It kinda sux that if you dress a certain way (if you're a girl), you are attention seeking or asking for it. But the way boys dress is no problem. Hell they can walk around with their shirts off and no one says they are attention seeking/asking for it. (And I understand boys hormones make them react differently than girls). But why can't people be taught self control? (And I'm not saying only boys need this lesson).

Saffire_gacha “ψ(`∇´)ψ Yeah I figured it was because of the beginning of the song and the lyrics . When I was 19 I was hanging out with some friends one night. Me and one friend were scrolling through messenger looking for someone to meet up with because it was just the three of us. We found out we both knew this one guy somehow so we decided to meet up with him but not tell him we were together to see what he said. We went to billiards club to play pool (not our idea, we wanted to go to the lake to fish). The whole time we were there he kept staring at my ass and my chest. I wasn’t even dressed provocatively. I was wearing a pair of jeans and a long sleeved grey cotton shirt. He invited us to come watch a movie at his place and we figured there wouldn’t be a problem since there were three of us girls and one of him. At his place we were laying down all next to each other. My friend on my left side fell asleep, and he was on my right with my other friend on the end. We laid there for probably an hour and for 45 minutes of it he kept grabbing my thighs, my butt, and eventually tried to shove his hand between my legs. The whole time I was trying to convince myself that I was being paranoid and that he was really asleep. And when I finally got tired of it and three his hand off me, he got mad and told me that it was my fault, that I led him on by hanging out with him and going back to his house. It didn’t matter I had two friends with me and I literally threw his arm back at him. It was still my fault, and I should’ve done more to show him I wasn’t interested. I know you’ll never see this comment Melanie, but thank you so much for making me feel...like someone understands. For making me feel like I wasn’t paranoid and that it wasn’t my fault. I love you so much. You’ll never know how much you’ve done for me 💖
