I liked how after she saw the damage it was causing to her body, she happily adapted, making blood cookies, but the leech didn't want just nourishment, it wanted the feeling of TAKING IT from her.

@sagebm I just shared a terrible personal experience, and I don't want anyone to go through it. Of course, the victim is always to blame... always the one who is exaggerating the situation. Because of thoughts like this, many people enter into toxic relationships (friendships or dating), because they think they are exaggerating, but they just want to be treated with more love and respect, and not as something disposable and usable.

It's actually interesting that the girl realizes she was used ONLY AFTER she SEES bigger bite marks unexpectedly. The leech has been sucking her blood at many points throughout the video, insinuating she was ALWAYS used. She just never saw it before because she liked her quality time with him. I've heard that having fake friends and long-term abuse is kinda like this. You never know you're being hurt and have been hurt until they pull the last straw.

ik a lot of people are taking this as relationships but I like how it can go deeper when we make friends with the enemies in our head or think our illnesses are our friend especially if u suffer from anorexia , bulimia, depression,drugs,alcohol , bad habits, etcs., u get used to thinking its helping you and then ur stuck with despair after so long and many fall victim to death or suicide. thank you melanie for your beautiful interpretation of art and how you allow it to have multiple meanings in such a bittersweet way .

The leech revealed its true nature from the very first bite, but since she was so vulnerable when she met it, she didn’t see it coming. One detail I don’t think a lot of people got is that at the start she gives the leech a cup/teacup of water but the leech bumps it over the same things we see at the end except it’s with the blood cookies, fake friends will always have their red flags p, they’re jeudt not as visible inn the start. As someone who was in one, it hits hard. He tried to take my debit cards because he didnt want me buying anything, made me give him $4000 saved up from government childcare checks (in Canada the primary parent, usually the mom, gets money each month to cover expenses the child may have) when I managed to leave, i had to cancel the card that money was one because he took it from me. He took my other card too but i was able to get it back.

The way that the young girl put the bow on the leech to make it less “ugly” definitely shows how people tend to overlook / hide red flags, but once the leech grew up, the bow became irrelevant and a lot less noticeable. One of the most unsettling music videos I’ve seen in a while but incredible work!! There’s so much symbolism in this one and it’s so nice to see the newer and rarer aesthetic of PORTALS 🍄🌿🧝🏼♀️

It’s like the leech is her childhood best friend and she takes care of it as much as she can, until the leech finds new friends and they turn against her causing the betrayal. this is so insanely deep and it means SO much to me, especially how she got hurt and just let it happen because she had a friend who made her smile. This is actually pretty relatable when it comes to friendships. As someone who grew up neglected and bullied heavily in school, I never figured out what a healthy relationship was. So after graduation I made "friends" that were, well, toxic. But I didn't know any better, I thought that's just what friendship was. After years of mental break downs, bending over backwards and walking on broken glass for these people, I stopped making friends. Currently in therapy right now trying to heal from ptsd. I don't know if I'll ever open up again, but we'll see.
