I absolutely ADORE the symbolism, from the butterflywings, the characters that look like they’re supposed to be in k-12, and them going to her grave and burying her, everyone knows she’s changing. At first they mourned her and then they helped her and watched her transform into a beautiful butterfly/fairy. Absolutely gorgeous.
@focy1546 Жыл бұрын
Also, if you look deeper into her character design, when the fairy has green hair, green can often represent new beginnings and such (I'm unsure if the green hair is permanent or not.) The color on her skin, pink, often reminds people of their childhoods or nostalgia. Edit: Reworded better

If you pay attention @4:16 you’ll notice she’s put 9 swords in crybaby. This could be seen as a reference to the 9 of swords tarot card which represents fear, anxiety, and things that keep you up at night. 9 of swords reversed represents overcoming darkness and once again seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I love it when artists incorporate hidden Easter eggs in their music videos. Good album all together.

Melanie singing about being "back from the dead" is also about her career : 3 years is enough for the industry to consider you "dead" but yet she is back proving her detractors (also those who claimed k12 was a flop) she is still here, more alive than ever, crazier, funnier than ever. I'm sorry, but I absolutely love her mind because the way she evokes the imagery of tarot cards at 4:17 is perfection. With the 9 of swords card representing Crybaby (9 of swords being the card of pain, sorrow, crying) and by impaling the corpse with the swords the 10 of swords imagery is invoked (10 of swords is like "The worst is over") and shows that this new form is truly going to be nothing like what we've heard from her before and I simply cannot wait. Omg I can't believe we actually got to see Crybaby's human form one last time! It's hard to let her go as we used her to cope for so many years, but she's one of us; and we always support when someone in our community finds themselves. I can see her breaking free of her old form or her old body where all the terrible things happened in Crybaby and K-12 (And After School) and leaving those memories behind as she escapes into her true form. I think every time Crybaby has died in the past, she's gotten rebirthed in the same body; but this is different. For one reason or another, she has finally been set free. (Probably has something to do with the end of K-12 and Lillith.) I'm super hyped to see the rest of PORTALS and where this journey takes Crybaby.

i hate how people are saying they dont like the "new melanie". This has always been her. I've listened to her music since I ws in middle school and shes always been different from other artist. Thats what makes her so special to me; that she can be herself not afraid of the world judging her or giving into the worldly view on beauty standards and normality. Shes even expressed multiple times through her songs, for example "fire drill". She knows shes different but she embraces it. I strive to be like her.

I love that they're going from babycore to fairy goth, I love the idea that they might explore a ton of really distinct aesthetics and switch their whole vibe every time they leave and come back. I love how it frees her from a single aesthetic box but is also so clearly authentic to her overall vibe so you still see what you loved about the last style in this style. Like it's a totally different genre but it's still surreal and a little creepy in a childhood nostalgia sort of way and it's still pastel and it's still femme. And I love that about her. Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

My idea is she gains more humanity and becomes more in tune with herself as a soul every next life she moves onto, but the trade off is she begins to appear less and less human each time

@undividedstars Жыл бұрын
this comment is for non fans who are confused!! Melanie has a character named "crybaby" who she portrays in all her albums. Melanie was bullied and called a crybaby as a kid for being emotional and sensitive which is where she got the name from. Her debut album "crybaby" tells the story of crybaby's birth and life as a young kid. it's a very deep album and the character goes through a lot. In her 2nd album "K-12" crybaby attends a weird school that's very messed up. she also made a film to go with it that's free on youtube called "K-12" as well. The movie was made in 2019 and ends on a cliffhanger (i won't spoil) Melanie released an EP in 2020 called "after school ". the EP is not connected to the storyline but is more so about Melanie's personal life as an adult. After that she then went on a hiatus until this year and dropped her third album "portals". We were left many years wondering what would happen after K-12 then in February 2023 Melanie randomly hit us with a teaser of crybaby's grave. Crybaby has somehow passed away and is now reincarnated as a faerie/siren. It's makeup, a prosthetic and body paint which takes about 2-3 hours to put on and she can see through tiny holes in the bottom pair of eyes. Melanie is currently working on a new film that'll finally show us what happened to crybaby. this album is the final one about this character too. (some facts for new fans) Melanie is known for having split dyed hair (inspired by cruella de vil) but decided not to give crybaby's new form the split hair because she wants to separate herself from the new crybaby. Melanie loves spiritual things like tarot cards and in the scene where there are 10 swords in her body is inspired by a tarot card. "the ten of swords" meaning a painful yet inevitable ending or being pinned down by a multitude of things or situations. there are other meanings for this which yall can look up if u want but i feel like those are the main ones. Melanie has been playing this character in her music since 2015 and wants to move on from it but some fans love the old human version of crybaby and melanie from the crybaby era and they won't let her move on and grow. also technically, there are 9 swords in her body but i'm pretty sure her heel is supposed to represent the 10th. In majority of her music videos there's always people in bunny masks because when she was young she had a pet bunny and one day found it decapitated so she likes to have people wear bunny masks in her music videos. each era the bunny masks evolve. okay maybe ill add more stuff later idk but ty for reading! (typing this from may 7th) i just wanna say ty again to everyone who took time out of their day to read this long comment! it makes me happy knowing that more people are becoming fans of Melanie and i'm glad my comment is helping people understand the story!! :) (lol it's 2024 now and wow i didn't expect all of this 😭i forgot about this comment. i made it at 13 & i'm 15 now :)) thanks for reading this whole essay again lol)

As a tarot card person I noticed there was a scene (4:15) similar to a card "nine of swords" which represents "being plagued by fear, guilt, doubt, and worries that are to a large extent, unfounded." To me that fits perfectly to the theme and the awakening from death as a new being. It sounds like it was added there on purpose but you'll never be sure unless Melanie says it their self.
@danielsolorzano4996 Жыл бұрын
I think its the ten of swords, cuz there is the sunrise behind, like in that card, and ten of swords is like "the end", the deepest point before getting up, i think it fits well too :) In the video there are only nine swords but maybe the heel represents the 10th hahaha

Today, I want to talk to you about the gospel of salvation according to Romans 6. The concept of sin is central to this discussion. Sin is the act of disobeying God's commands, and it has serious consequences. The Bible teaches that the penalty for sin is death, both physical and spiritual (Romans 6:23). But there is good news. Through Jesus Christ, we have a way to be saved from our sins and have eternal life. Romans 6:23 goes on to say, "but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." This means that salvation is a free gift from God that we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. So, how do we receive this gift of salvation? Romans 10:9 says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." This means that we need to confess our belief in Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. By doing so, we are acknowledging that we are sinners in need of a savior, and that Jesus is the only way to be saved. The significance of Jesus' sacrifice cannot be overstated. He died on the cross as a perfect sacrifice for our sins, taking the punishment we deserve so that we can be forgiven and reconciled to God. Through His resurrection, Jesus conquered sin and death, and offers us the gift of eternal life. It is essential to understand that accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior is not merely a one-time decision, but a lifelong commitment. As we grow in our faith, we become more like Jesus, and our desire to follow His teachings increases. We are called to live a life of holiness and obedience to God's commands, not to earn our salvation, but as a reflection of our gratitude for what He has done for us. I invite you to consider these teachings and make an informed decision about your faith. If you have not yet accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do so today. Know that you are loved by God, and that He desires a personal relationship with you. May you experience the peace and joy that comes from knowing Him.

Idk man I don’t think it’s bad that people just simply Don’t like the direction she’s taking? I love Melanie and Ik this is just her style she’s weird and super creative and does stuff like this but I no longer have an interest in going to her concert bc I just don’t want to see an alien “dancing” for an hour or more I’m sure it’s going to be cool af in the movie and I thought it was so good in this video but i think Melanie is such a good dancer and I’m disappointed she can’t move as much bc of the prosthetics. I watched part of her concert on yt and the prosthetics just don’t look good in real life in my opinion and she could barely dance it was just disappointing. I don’t think there’s a problem with people liking it or disliking it I’m just sick of seeing so many comments hating on people that don’t like this. It’s new for a reason and it’s a change not everybody is going to like it or has to. Another reason people could dislike it is bc she changes her style of music a little and it might just not be their style? If you were talking about just haters I couldn’t tell but people simply not liking the new era? People are allowed to their own opinions and can love a person without enjoying every little thing they do. I just don’t think it’s right that because you think it’s great that you’re going to put other people down for not liking it acting like they didn’t stick with Melanie like that’s a bad thing. She creates art and not everyone is going to like every art piece she creates. It’s not like people are losing interest to hurt her they just genuinely don’t like it. That’s okay there is nothing wrong with that as long as they’re not hating. This isn’t really directed at just you either so if I’m misinterpreting your comment I’m sorry I’ve just seen so many other comments like this or even tik toks judging people who dislike it and it’s getting really ridiculous. It’s easy to push Melanie up and support her without having to put other people down.

Lost my mom two years ago, and I cannot tell you how this song has helped start finally healing. Just hearing some of the lyrics hit hard but also makes me feel as if though i was supposed to hear this for a reason. I really appreciate Melanie and her musical, beautiful mind. "I don't wanna be carryin the weight on my shoulders. Death has come to me kissed me on the cheek gave me closure." These lyrics specifically reminded me of when I went into a very dark and self harming phase after losing my mom, but hearing "Immortal by design. I'll be meetin' you every time." I couldn't help but break down, because I know I'll see her again when it's my time. This is the first time music has truly touched my soul like this.

this is the first song Melanie's released since the passing of my mother, and honestly I can say that Melanie always has a song for every situation in life. To think that my mom watched k-12 with me and although she's not here to watch this with me, I really see her in crybaby's new character. It's honestly really healing, and the pagan imagery and lyrics are really cool since her whole life was focused around witchcraft and our family HAS been noticing her presence. This song hits way harder than ANYTHING else you could've possibly released at this time, and I want to thank you for the beautiful message. Yes, we all die, but there's also a beauty and freedom in death. The situation may be sad, but the soul is finally at peace. Melanie if you're reading this, I first discovered you when Crybaby was released (5th grade) and you got me through horrible bullying and helped me to learn to love my body and gapped teeth. Thank you for always being there as an artist. I can't wait to see you grow as a person from here on out. I love when we see artists become new versions of themselves, especially if their old self is what they're iconically known for. It's the change and growth that's so special, you can tell Mel is at a better place with herself and they're exactly where they need to be. Sometimes we have to lay to rest the person we once were to become something entirely different and new. Even if we love our old self and many people did as well, it can weight us down, be suffocating, and make us feel trapped like we have to mirror to that image forever. I love this new direction and am so excited for Portals and what's to come!!
@Catstronautgirl Жыл бұрын
I like to think that when she says “Please don’t ever worry, I know it’s morbid… but we’re all going to die one day.” Is not actually about death, but about change. Regardless of whether you’re scared of change or not, it will happen, everyone changes someday sometime. Which I personally don’t agree with but I can definitely see it being more about that than actual death.
